McKinley's Children's Garden is dedicated to the legacy of McKinley & his goal of beautification and food justice in Urban communities.
McKinley's Children's Garden was founded by the late McKinley Hightower-Beyah in Fall of 2005.
He began the garden as a way to have youth in the Jamaica, New York area and beyond to have exposure to urban agriculture. The garden is a Greenthumb garden that is dedicated to his legacy and lifelong work of creating food access & food justice for all.
The McKinley Hightower-Beyah award began as a way for Just Food to honor one of the main project collaborator and idea maker to work with the organization since their early years.
Presently the annual award is presented to a youth of NYC that showed some of the best qualities that McKinley had: leadership, outreach to their community and making an impact in the Urban Agriculture & Food Justice movements of the City.
